The principal function of the regional panels is to determine regionally significant development applications. In order to undertake such function, the panels meet with council staff and stakeholders to understand the nature of each development application and any issues associated with each application.
The briefing meeting is an informal meeting between the regional panel and relevant council staff on current or forthcoming development applications that have/will be referred to the panel. The purpose of this meeting is for council staff to provide a brief overview of the proposed development and issues of concern arising through the assessment process or raised in submissions. Timing of the assessment report and tentative date for a panel meeting to consider the application may also be discussed. However, the merits of the application will not be discussed to ensure council staff’s assessment of the application is independent.
The panel meeting is when the regional panel meets in public to consider the development application that has been referred to it. The purpose of the meeting is for the regional panel to hear those who wish to express their view on the development application before the panel makes a decision. Following hearing of public submissions, the panel may proceed to determine the application or decide another course of action, where appropriate.
Meeting schedule
The meeting dates listed on this page are dates panel members have reserved for panel business. On these dates, there may be briefing meetings, and/or site visits, and/or panel meetings. Panels may meet outside the scheduled dates, if required, so as not to delay consideration of applications. These additional dates will be included in the schedule as soon as they become available.
